If, like me, you obsessively read nutrition labels to find out which laboratory chemicals your diet is missing, then you’ll want to know about recent changes to the federally-required nutrition label on your packaged foods. The new label, helpfully introduced by First Lady (and future food industry lobby inspirational speaker) Michelle Obama, tweaks the iconic panel to place more emphasis on:
- the number of calories that are making you fat;
- the actual amounts of nutrients whose measurement units you don’t recognize; and
- the amount of artificially added sugar being added to your sugar.
To help you understand this new nutrition label, I’ve provided an overview below. You’ll soon be seeing this in stores, so study this carefully. Otherwise you may accidentally read it.
